Employer Supported Volunteering
Over the past twelve months the ESV committee at BIH has been under the umbrella of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Strategy after raising £7,000 pounds for PAPA in 2005/2006 (Parents and Professionals for Autism).
The committee has changed its focus to provide for charities that not only need monetary funds but also hands on help that can be provided by either skills that BIH staff might have such as Information Technology (IT), Financial Advice or a host of other services.
A large emphasis of 2006/2007 was placed on staff involvement at ESV events. Many internal and external staff gave up their time to participate in the events planned for the year raising funds for a several new Charities. Two relay teams tackled the 26.3 mile Belfast Marathon course raising over £700 pounds for the Dylan Dicks appeal providing some of the funding required for a one year old child from North Belfast to have a vital operation in Germany. Seventeen staff members participated in the CLIC Sargent Cancer Dragon Boat Race on the Lagan River raising £1,300 for Children with Cancer. At present the ESV committee are in the process of choosing a charity to partner for a year raising funds and providing a range of skills to develop the chosen charity’s work.
